Activities & Day Tours in and
around Cape Town
|
|
Forward:
We recommend if you have the time, to spend a few days in the Cape
Town area. Aside from being one of the most scenic parts of the world,
it is steeped in history, has the added attractions of the Cape
Peninsula, Table Bay and False Bay, the famous winelands (not just
“wine” but a look into a way of life unparalleled), whale watching,
botanical gardens, beautifully restored 17th century buildings and
parks, classic university campuses, the Waterfront, Table Mountain,
Robben island, Thunder City…..the list is endless. You should consider
also a local aerial flight around the Cape Peninsula, not to be missed.
The Cape can be done prior to, or after your Self Fly safari. We have
many guided and hosted local programmes in this area, or you can simply
rent a car and do your own thing.
There are a host of places to stay in Cape Town and the surrounding
areas. Our favorite is the “River Manor & Spa”, located in the historic
town of Stellenbosch, less than 60km from Cape Town. Well positioned in
a quiet street, minutes only walking to many restaurants, cafes, art
galleries, theatres, shops, museums and the town centre. The ambiance of
this town is legendary, with its active university, no major industries,
oak lined streets (many planted just after the area’s first colonization
in 1652) and beautifully restored buildings – Classic Cape Dutch
Architecture.
Travel between the two centers of Cape Town and Johannesburg can vary. A
highlight is a classic rail journey (either the Blue Train or Rovos
Rail) if it fits in with your time and the Self Fly safari schedule. One
of a kind, Rovos is the most luxurious train in the world (classic
restored early 20th century steam train) and stops off en route to Cape
Town at places of great historical and contemporary interest, where your
train hosts conduct short trips.
